ITANAGAR, Dec 21: Niba Hospital celebrated its 13th foundation day in a very humble way by conducting a free health camp for the children and staff of Oju Mission School today.

Authorities urged to take action
ITANAGAR, Dec 21: Taking serious note of the growing cases of alleged manhandling/harassment meted out to the workers engaged in enquiry centres of various departments like Power, PWD, PHED in Capital Complex, Itanagar especially during night hours, All Arunachal Pradesh Workers’ Union (AAPWU) today strongly appealed the state government particularly administration and law enforcing authorities to look into the matter and initiate needful measures to check such incidents.
The Union threatened to launch democratic movement if the authorities fail to initiate steps to safeguard the life and property of workers. Further, it appealed the citizens to cooperate with the workers for betterment.

As part of the camp, 70 Claretines under the leadership of NSS Program Officers Withoam Socia and Tasso Tagia, assembled in Reru village and organized a cleanliness drive. They cleaned up drainages and roads along the length and breadth of the village. The principal and vice principal of the college also joined with the students in the cleanliness drive.
The Department of Urban Development provided a vehicle (truck) for disposal of the garbage.
The people of the village welcomed the efforts of the NSS volunteers. Many Gaon Buras, women, and members of the youth associations participated, encouraged, and appreciated the volunteers for their service in the severe cold weather which was further intensified by periodic drizzle.

Drive against illegal timber operation
Huge quantity of illegal timber seized
ITANAGAR, Dec 21: A huge quantity of illegal timber/logs have been seized/recovered from Goloso, Jolly and Lanka areas of Seijosa in East Kameng district during a joint drive conducted by Dibru Village Forest Development Council (Du.VFDC) with forest officials, Seijosa Range, Special Task Force (STF), Pakke Wildlife, Police personnel, PRI members and GBs of the concern area. The massive drive was conducted in view of the reported illegal timber operation by some timber mafia from Assam in connivance with ‘influential’ local people.
According to Du.VFDC release, more than 800 pieces of illegal timber/logs are still lying in the area which could not be smuggled due to timely intervention. It was found during the drive that the smugglers had been using a secret/unrecorded road for transportation of such illegal timber to Assam.
Meanwhile, the Du.VFDC appealed to the authority concerned to initiate immediate measure to check the illegal timber operation and to block the said road at the earliest. The Society also appealed to those local people to refrain from indulging in such illegal activities.

The enthusiasm to get rid of opium addiction was seen in women as some of them attended the camp with their kids. The technical support for the camp was provided by a team from treatment cum rehabilitation center, Arunachal Pali Vidyapeeth Society, Chongkham.
Yoga and meditation along with medication were conducted for the participants besides recreational activities, like volleyball, carom and chess.
Counseling was done by former opium addicts, who now lead a healthy and normal life after getting themselves rid of opium addiction.
All the counselors opined that a strong will power was needed to give up with the habit of opium consumption apart from medication. During the course of counseling, they cautioned the participants not to indulge in drinking after the conclusion of camp, as it would ruin them mentally, physically and financially.
It was observed during the camp that most of the males became addicted to opium out of leisurely pleasure, but in case of women, they became addicted to opium for medical reasons as they had initially used opium for treating ailments like stomach pain, dysentery and other body pains. Some participants confessed to have consumed opium for the past 20 years.
Some prominent Panchayat members of Anjaw, who included three ZPMs and two ASM chairpersons during their visit to the camp interacted with the participants. They praised the participants for their wise decision to give up opium and opt for a healthy life. They also distributed health drinks and fruits to the participants.
At the end of the camp all the participants pledged not to take opium in the future and also to encourage other people in their villages to refrain from taking opium.

PPA kick starts poll campaign from its birth place

ITANAGAR, Dec 21: The child trafficking and child marriage are the endemic social vices which the Puroik community has been fighting against since generations. To eradicate the these social practices, All Puriok Welfare Society(APWS) had organized social service cum awareness campaign at Daiso village under Laporiang circle of Papum Pare district on 17th December last. Arunachal imposes power load restriction
Itanagar, Dec 21: Arunachal Pradesh government has imposed load restriction on power supply as per allocation with immediate effect in view of the onset of lean hydro season and subsequent reduction in the state’s allocation schedule.
"Since power availability and demand varies appreciably from time to time to short notice revision by various generating stations, the quantum of power allocated, duration of imposition and area to be covered may vary with time," an official order said.
All divisions and districts should strictly abide by all directives, verbal or otherwise, issued by the state level distribution centre (SLDC), Itanagar, on the matter, it said.

Among others, Director, G&M, T Tallar, Assistant Registrar, RGU, N Toglik, General Secretary, AAPLU, Rigam Talar, Assistant Project Officer, SSA, Tori Gadi, Chairman Organizing committee, Tame Akin also spoke on the occasion. Apart from regular program cultural event were also organized to mark the day. Members of AAPLU from, Anjaw, Anini, Along, Capital unit and from other various district were attended the celebration.
GHSS Dumporijo celebrates Golden Jubilee
ITANAGAR, Dec 21: The Golden Jubilee Celebration of Government Higher Secondary School Dumporijo concluded on December 16 last.
Addressing the valedictory function Upper Subansiri District Deputy Commissioner Tahang in his speech, reminded the students to keep aloof from the undisciplined practices of drinking and smoking. He said that it is the duty of the students to preserve the image, prestige and dignity of the school as well as the district. He admired the achievements of Govt Higher Secondary School Dumporijo as the premier educational institution in the district and promised all support from the District Administration for the good cause of the school. Y. Nalo, ZPM and Same Timba, DPO, officers, parents, students and general public also attended the function.
Earlier, the function was inaugurated by Education Minister Bosiram Siram on December 15.
In his inaugural speech, Siram stressed on hard work to attain success in life, he also urged students as well as the gathering to give equal treatment to male and female children and to discourage child marriage.
He briefed about the initiatives taken by the present state government to encourage education, particularly among the girl children.
Sushil Nalo, President, Upper Subansiri Zilla Parishad, advised the students to utilize their maximum time in their studies.
Takar Marde, the Local MLA cum Deputy Chairman, State Planning Board, advised the students to be committed in their studies and advocated them to imbibe good qualities.
During the two days celebration, cultural, literary and games and sports events were conducted besides felicitating three successful alumni such as achievers of NEFA Scholarship Award Tara Bulo, Tali Bulo and Tayum Bage as well as presentation of citation to outstanding contributors to the school in its preliminary stage Late Binya Marde, Taro Bui and alumnus Takar Marde, Local MLA cum Dy Chairman, State Planning Board.
The inaugural function of the celebration was attended by HODs, officers, political leaders, alumni, general public, Lt Col Pradeep Thapa and Major Manoj Chaudhury of 15th SIKHLI Regiment.
